It can be hard to come up with strong, properly good passwords on your own. If you need any help with this task, you can get some from The Passguard. This is a password protected application that will generate passwords for you, help you manage passwords, and copy passwords to the clipboard so you can easily paste them anywhere you want.

The Passguard is a portable application. This means that you will not have to install it on your PC. To use The Passguard you just need to download an executable (close to 10MB in size) and run it. The first time you run The Passguard you will be invited to enter a master password that will protect access to the application.

All stored passwords are presented as a list on the application’s interface. Right click an entry on the list and the context menu will display two options: copy password and remove password.
Down at the bottom of the application’s interface there are three buttons: Settings (change the supported language, check for updates, change the master password), Create a New Password, and Support.

The Passguard can generate strong passwords for you. The default length of the password is 6 characters; if you want to change this default length, you can easily enter a custom value. The password generated by the application can include lowercase letters, uppercase letters, numbers, and symbols.

As previously mentioned, you need to provide a master password to gain access to The Passguard. If you enter the password and hit Enter, nothing will happen. You need to click the Login button to access the application. This can prove to be annoying.

Also as previously mentioned, all the passwords generated by the application will be displayed as a list on the interface. I used The Passguard on a couple of machines and encountered the same problem: from session to session, the application did not remember all the passwords, it only remembered the last one.

If you need a free and password protected tool to generate strong passwords, then go get The Passguard.

Pros

The Passguard is portable; it does not have to be installed. Access to the application is password protected. You can generate strong passwords that contain lowercase letters, uppercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Copy passwords to the clipboard and easily paste them into other applications. The Passguard is free software.

Cons

You can’t just enter the master password and hit Enter, you actually have to click the Login button in order to access the application. If I generate 3 passwords, close the application, and open it later, it only displays the password that was generated last, not all 3 of them.
